Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to perform preliminary ophthalmic screening examinations and assist physicians with patient care, diagnostic testing, and ophthalmic procedures.

The technician will perform a variety of ophthalmic diagnostic tests, maintain and operate specialized ophthalmic equipment, assist with ophthalmic procedures, and provide professional and compassionate patient care.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform preliminary ophthalmic screening examinations for physician review.
  • Perform central and peripheral visual field testing, ocular motility testing, color vision testing, pharmacological pupil testing, and pupil assessments.
  • Perform tonometry, tonography, and related intraocular pressure testing.
  • Obtain and accurately document patient medical and personal information.
  • Direct patient flow and assist with coordinating physician examinations.
  • Arrange laboratory tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, admissions, and surgical procedures as requested by the physician.
  • Explain diagnostic procedures and treatment methods to patients and families.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and operate ophthalmic equipment, including biomicroscopes, lensometers, keratometers, tangent screens, slit lamps, and tonometers.
  • Clean and stock consultation rooms and laboratory areas with necessary supplies.
  • Sterilize and prepare instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Assist with minor office surgery, laser treatments, and operating room procedures as required.
  • Maintain proper infection-control and patient-safety standards.
  • Provide professional, compassionate, and patient-focused care.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education & Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED — Required.
  • Completion of appropriate Ophthalmic Technician or Medical Assistant certificate training — Required.

Certification & Licensure:

  • No specific certification or licensure required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification — Preferred.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as an Ophthalmic Technician — Required.
  • 2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience is non-negotiable.
  • Strong knowledge of routine ophthalmic procedures and applications.
  • Excellent patient-care and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a clinical environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
Additional Information
  • Minimum 2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience is mandatory.
  • Candidates without the required Ophthalmic Technician experience will not be considered.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification is preferred.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent patient and people skills.
  • Must be able to perform routine ophthalmic procedures and applications independently.
  • 8-hour day shifts.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Location: Brooklyn, NY.
