Job Description
Mechanical Engineer – Medical Device Product Development
Reno, NV | $90,000–$110,000 DOE | Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing medical-device organization in Reno, Nevada.
This is a hands-on product development role for an engineer who wants ownership beyond simply producing CAD drawings. The Mechanical Engineer will help drive mechanical components and assemblies from initial concept and prototype development through design verification, manufacturing transfer, and sustaining engineering.
The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical design fundamentals, experience with precision assemblies, GD&T and tolerance analysis, and the ability to work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Electrical Engineering, and external suppliers.
Experience within medical devices or another regulated manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
What You'll Do
Design and develop mechanical components, housings, assemblies, and related product hardware.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings using proper GD&T practices.
Perform tolerance stack-up and dimensional analysis for precision assemblies.
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on product requirements.
Apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.
Build, evaluate, and refine engineering prototypes.
Develop and execute mechanical testing and design verification activities.
Analyze test results and use data to drive engineering decisions.
Participate in design reviews and cross-functional product development activities.
Support design-control documentation including design inputs and outputs, DFMEA, verification activities, and Design History File documentation.
Work with suppliers supporting machining, injection molding, and other manufacturing processes.
Evaluate supplier components and resolve dimensional, quality, and manufacturing issues.
Lead or support root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
Support CAPA activities and engineering changes for released products.
Develop and maintain BOMs, engineering specifications, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
Support successful design transfer from Engineering into Production.
Partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering, and Operations.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Approximately 4–5+ years of mechanical design or product-development experience.
Strong 3D CAD proficiency; SolidWorks experience highly desirable.
Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T.
Experience performing tolerance analysis and tolerance stack-ups.
Knowledge of material selection and manufacturing processes.
Experience developing and testing prototypes.
Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills.
Ability to create clear technical documentation.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Highly Desired Experience
Medical-device product development.
FDA-regulated or other regulated manufacturing environments.
ISO 13485 environments.
Injection-molded plastics.
Precision mechanical assemblies.
Design controls and Design History Files.
Verification and validation.
Root-cause analysis and CAPA.
Design transfer into manufacturing.
Why This Opportunity?
This position offers the opportunity to work directly on the development and continued improvement of sophisticated medical-device technology while maintaining meaningful ownership throughout the product lifecycle.
You'll have the opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, product development, manufacturing support, and cross-functional collaboration rather than being limited to one narrow area of mechanical engineering.
Compensation
$90,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience.
Qualified Mechanical Engineers interested in taking ownership of complex products from concept through manufacturing are encouraged to apply.
