Job Description
Job Description
Day in the Life
You start with a traveler and a set of 2D drawings, study the weld symbols, plan your fit-up, and choose the right process for the material at hand. By mid-morning, you’re laying in clean GMAW beads on carbon steel, switching to aluminum or stainless as the job requires. After lunch, you’re tacking, checking dimensions, refining alignment, and finishing an assembly that exists nowhere else—because this is custom, short-run work, not repetitive production welding.
Core Work You’ll Own- MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
- TIG (GTAW) welding as needed; TIG proficiency is a plus
- Fit-up, tack, weld, and finish unique, non-repetitive assemblies
- Fabricate sheet metal and structural components directly from prints
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and job travelers
- Measure, lay out, and verify parts throughout each build
- Grind and clean welds to meet aesthetic and structural requirements
- Operate standard shop tools: grinders, saws, drills, and more
- Hold tight quality standards for appearance and integrity
- Work safely and keep to quality and schedule expectations
- Maintain a clean, organized work area
- Hands-on experience in a job-shop welding/fabrication setting
- Comfort moving between varied tasks (this is not production welding)
- Strong MIG welding capability across multiple metals
- Experience with carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless
- Ability to read prints and weld symbols without assistance
- Excellent fit-up, layout, and troubleshooting skills
- Adaptable to changing priorities and one-off builds
- Reliable, punctual, and confident working independently
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing for long periods
- TIG welding experience
- Certifications (AWS or comparable)
- Comfort working from incomplete or evolving drawings
- Experience blending/grinding for appearance or coating
Your welding and fabrication abilities will be assessed during the interview through a hands-on test. Please bring your personal welding gear required to complete the weld/fabrication evaluation.
