Position Summary:


The Activities Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of meaningful recreational, social, educational, spiritual, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care setting. The position promotes resident engagement, quality of life, social interaction, independence, and emotional well-being while respecting each resident’s individual preferences, abilities, and needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with planning and conducting daily activities, including games, crafts, music, exercise, entertainment, outings, and social events.

Encourage residents to participate in activities based on their interests, abilities, and care plans.

Provide one-on-one activities and individualized engagement for residents who are unable or prefer not to participate in group activities.

Assist residents with safely attending and participating in scheduled activities.

Set up, organize, and clean activity areas and equipment before and after programs.

Prepare and maintain activity supplies, calendars, bulletin boards, and related materials.

Document resident participation and responses to activities as required.

Observe residents during activities and report changes in mood, behavior, participation, or condition to the appropriate staff.

Work with nursing and other interdisciplinary team members to support resident needs and preferences.

Assist with special events, holiday programs, birthday celebrations, and family/community activities.

Promote a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all residents.

Follow facility policies, infection-control procedures, safety requirements, and resident rights regulations.

Maintain confidentiality and protect residents’ privacy and dignity.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director or facility leadership.
