An automotive franchise dealership group in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking an experienced and results-driven Automotive Dealership Service Director to lead and grow our service departments. This is a key leadership position for a proven dealership service management professional who understands the importance of customer satisfaction, technician productivity, service profitability, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on franchise dealership service management experience, a strong understanding of automotive service operations, and a demonstrated ability to lead teams while driving service department performance. Luxury dealership experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the service department's daily operations, including service advisors, technicians, support personnel, workflow, customer satisfaction, and departmental profitability.
- Develop and maintain efficient scheduling, workflow, technician dispatching, and resource allocation.
- Lead, coach, motivate, and hold service advisors, technicians, and support staff accountable for performance.
- Drive service department profitability, gross profit, labor sales, parts sales, customer-pay business, and overall revenue growth.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including technician productivity, efficiency, hours per RO, effective labor rate, CSI, retention, and department profitability.
- Ensure exceptional customer service through professional communication, accurate service writing, transparent estimates, and timely vehicle-status updates.
- Oversee vehicle diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and maintenance across a broad range of automotive systems.
- Maintain familiarity with transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, alignments, tires, oil services, diesel systems, shocks and struts, air brakes, electrical/diagnostic systems, and other automotive repair operations.
- Implement effective maintenance and repair recommendations while ensuring a positive customer experience.
- Identify opportunities to increase customer-pay and warranty business through ethical and professional service recommendations.
- Work closely with the Parts Department to maintain appropriate inventory, pricing, availability, and workflow.
- Ensure compliance with dealership, manufacturer, OSHA, environmental, and workplace safety standards.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair orders, documentation, and administrative procedures.
- Assist with training, developing, and retaining high-performing Service Department personnel.
- Collaborate with the Sales Department to create exceptional ownership experiences that generate repeat and referral business.
- Monitor customer concerns and resolve escalated service issues quickly and professionally.
- Maintain a clean, organized, efficient, and professional service operation.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven automotive dealership service department management or automotive repair operations experience — REQUIRED
- Strong knowledge of dealership service operations, repair processes, diagnostics, and mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead service advisors, technicians, and support personnel.
- Proven history of improving service department performance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Strong understanding of dealership KPIs and financial performance.
- Experience with service writing, repair orders, estimates, and automotive service management systems.
- Experience with auto estimating software is highly desirable.
- Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to train, coach, and hold employees accountable to established performance standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven dealership environment.
- OEM/manufacturer training or certifications.
