An established automotive dealership in the New Orleans area is seeking an experienced, hands-on Used Car Manager to lead its pre-owned operation. This is a leadership role for someone who understands a successful used-car department starts with buying the right vehicles, structuring profitable deals, and keeping inventory moving. The ideal candidate is experienced, decisive, analytical, customer-focused, and willing to take ownership of the entire used vehicle inventory lifecycle.
What You'll Own
Vehicle Acquisition:
- Proactively source and acquire quality pre-owned vehicles.
- Evaluate trades and purchase opportunities based on market demand, vehicle condition, and profitability.
- Use current market data to make disciplined appraisal and acquisition decisions.
- Maintain an inventory mix that fits dealership objectives and local market demand.
Desking & Deal Structure:
- Desk used vehicle deals with a focus on customer experience, gross profitability, and deal quality.
- Partner closely with the sales team to structure competitive, executable deals.
- Provide clear direction to sales consultants and managers throughout the deal process. Balance closing opportunities with protecting dealership profitability.
60-Day Inventory Turn:
- Maintain a disciplined 60-day inventory turn strategy.
- Monitor aging inventory daily and take action before vehicles become problems.
- Make pricing, merchandising, wholesale, and acquisition decisions based on inventory performance.
- Identify aged or underperforming inventory and establish a clear exit strategy.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Review used inventory, pricing, market position, and aging every day.
- Support accurate and competitive trade appraisals.
- Ensure vehicles are priced appropriately for current market conditions.
- Partner with sales leadership on used-vehicle performance and opportunities.
- Coach the sales team on used inventory, deal structure, and trade opportunities.
- Maintain strong awareness of market conditions and competitor pricing.
- Hold yourself and the team accountable for inventory performance.
We're Looking For
The right candidate understands that used-car management is more than managing a lot. You should be comfortable buying vehicles, making appraisal decisions, structuring deals, analyzing inventory, and taking action when something isn't performing.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Automotive retail management experience.
- Strong experience with used vehicles, appraisals, and acquisitions.
- Proven ability to desk and structure automotive deals.
- Strong understanding of inventory aging and turn.
- Ability to make decisions using both market data and dealership performance.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- High level of ownership, urgency, and accountability.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced dealership environment.
