Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of hemodialysis experience required.
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- American Heart Association BLS Provider certification required.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with facility staff.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
- Must successfully complete required training and demonstrate competency in:
- Dialysis machine setup
- Treatment initiation and termination
- Patient monitoring
- Dialysis access management
- Emergency procedures
- Other functions necessary to safely complete dialysis treatments
As a Dialysis RN, you will be responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and effective dialysis care to patients receiving treatment within skilled nursing facilities.
Patient Care:
- Manage and provide care for AV fistulas, grafts, shunts, and dialysis catheters.
- Perform venipuncture, access care, and dressing changes according to established standards.
- Safely manage dialysis treatments for assigned patients.
- Administer and document medications and assess the need for PRN medications.
- Complete nursing assessments and document patient status throughout treatment.
- Monitor patients for signs, symptoms, and adverse reactions and respond appropriately.
- Obtain and carry out physician orders accurately and promptly.
- Obtain, process, and document laboratory specimens according to policy.
- Review and evaluate laboratory results and communicate significant findings appropriately.
- Implement and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Provide patient and family education related to treatment and care.
- Maintain accurate medication and treatment documentation.
- Supervise dialysis technicians and ensure completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Perform regular patient rounds to promote safety and quality of care.
- Ensure required equipment checks and safety testing are completed prior to treatment.
- Monitor dialysis machines and patients throughout treatment.
- Follow infection prevention, bloodborne pathogen, and universal precaution requirements.
- Maintain and check emergency equipment according to policy.
- Participate in emergency procedures and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Assist with maintaining adequate medication and supply inventory.
- Complete initial nursing assessments for newly admitted patients.
- Participate in training and orientation of new employees when needed.
- Report defective or malfunctioning equipment immediately.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional treatment environment.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect all patient health information.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, facility staff, technicians, and members of the Spectrum Dialysis team.
- Support and follow Spectrum Dialysis policies, procedures, and standards of care.
