Physical Therapist (PT) – School-Based Responsibilities
- Evaluate students’ gross motor skills, mobility, balance, strength, coordination, posture, and functional access within the educational environment.
- Determine students’ eligibility and need for school-based physical therapy services in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Develop and implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans aligned with students’ IEP goals.
- Provide direct physical therapy services in individual, group, classroom, and other school-based settings.
- Support students’ safe participation in classroom activities, physical education, transitions, transportation, and other school routines.
- Recommend adaptive equipment, mobility devices, positioning supports, environmental modifications, and classroom accommodations when appropriate.
- Train and collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
- Participate in IEP, eligibility, reevaluation, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Monitor student progress and modify interventions, goals, or service recommendations as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate evaluations, progress reports, service logs, and other required documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Provide direction and supervision to Physical Therapist Assistants when assigned and permitted by state law and district policy.
- Promote student independence, safety, and access to the educational environment and curriculum.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Physical Therapy, or an equivalent qualifying degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program.
- Active Florida Department of Health (DOH) Physical Therapist license
- Successful completion of the National Physical Therapy Examination and any other applicable state requirements.
- Previous pediatric or school-based physical therapy experience is preferred.
- Experience with IEP development, evaluations, documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration is preferred.
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment, mobility supports, and educationally relevant physical therapy services is preferred.
- Ability to meet all district onboarding, background screening, and health requirements.
