Physical Therapist Position Summary
The Physical Therapist provides comprehensive physical therapy services to patients as referred, including assessment, treatment plan development, implementation, follow-up, and discharge planning. The role also encompasses clinical contributions to program development, departmental operations, and performance improvement activities while supervising and coordinating student programs and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough diagnostic evaluations to assess the physical and cognitive abilities of both inpatients and outpatients, with consideration of diagnosis and age-specific needs.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and families, with clear objectives and strategies to meet those goals.
- Ensure adherence to documentation policies and procedures, including initial patient evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other necessary records.
- Participate in patient and family care conferences, in-service programs, and departmental meetings to enhance overall patient care quality.
- Provide counseling to patients, families, and other involved parties regarding patient evaluations, care, and treatment methods. Manage timely discharge planning and education.
- Assist in the supervision of Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant student programs and volunteer coordination.
- Support clinical department functions, including the orientation of new staff and patient scheduling to ensure optimal quality of care and supervisory coverage.
- Embrace and promote the organization’s core values while engaging in performance improvement initiatives to enhance departmental effectiveness.
- Maintain awareness of local community agencies to facilitate appropriate referrals and improve knowledge of available resources.
- Identify educational opportunities for personal, departmental, and community enrichment, and participate in relevant research activities as necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency in performing patient care responsibilities that cater to the specific needs of various patient demographics.
- Adapt assessment and treatment methods to meet the unique physical, psychological, and cultural needs of each patient.
- Foster positive professional relationships with medical staff, physicians, and referral sources.
- Perform additional related duties as directed.
- Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or entry-level Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from an accredited institution is required.
- Licenses and Certifications: Current physical therapist licensure for New Mexico and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider are required.
- Skills: Proficient in utilizing all modalities and equipment relevant to the physical therapy field as outlined by regulatory authorities.
- Experience: Previous experience is not necessary.
This is a full-time position consisting of five days with an eight-hour shift, adhering to the standard hours of operation.
