Apartment Maintenance Technician
Location: Cloquet, Minnesota
Property Type: Senior Housing Community
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Pay: $21.00–$23.00 per hour, depending on experience
Employment Type: Full-time
Start Date: Immediate hire available
We are seeking a dependable, skilled, and service-oriented Apartment Maintenance Technician to support a senior housing community in Cloquet, Minnesota. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-functioning environment for residents.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, professional, organized, and able to communicate respectfully with older adults, coworkers, vendors, and management. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional or a mechanically inclined individual with transferable skills who is eager to contribute to a welcoming residential community.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete resident work orders and maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance throughout the property.
- Troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing issues, including faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, and minor leaks.
- Complete basic electrical repairs, such as replacing light fixtures, switches, outlets, and batteries.
- Perform drywall patching, painting, caulking, flooring repairs, and general cosmetic improvements.
- Repair or replace doors, locks, cabinets, blinds, screens, and other hardware.
- Assist with appliance troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Prepare apartments for new residents, including inspections, repairs, cleaning coordination, and move-in readiness.
- Conduct regular inspections of apartments, common areas, mechanical rooms, and building systems.
- Maintain hallways, lobbies, laundry areas, community rooms, storage areas, and other shared spaces.
- Monitor building conditions and report safety concerns, needed repairs, or potential hazards.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance, including snow removal, salting, lawn care, and exterior upkeep as needed.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, materials, and completed repairs.
- Keep tools, maintenance areas, storage spaces, and equipment clean and organized.
- Follow all safety procedures, applicable housing requirements, building codes, and company policies.
- Provide courteous, patient, and respectful service to senior residents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Respond appropriately to maintenance-related concerns and communicate updates clearly to residents and management.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in apartment, residential, commercial, hotel, facilities, construction, or building maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building repairs.
- Strong troubleshooting, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Patience, dependability, and respect when working with senior residents.
- Ability to prioritize work orders and work independently.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and work in indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to respond to occasional maintenance emergencies or urgent building needs.
- Ability to complete any required background or employment screening.
