Schedule-Dental Assistant-The contractor will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 6:00 am – 2:30 pm or 6:30 am to 3:00 pm depending on their assigned dental officer, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. If the assistant’s assigned Dental Officer is working a compressed work schedule their hours will be changed accordingly. This means that some or all the dental assistants could be working 9 to 10 sessions per day or a straight eight (8) (no duty-free lunch) schedule. The facility is expected to require an average of 8-10 sessions per day. The Dental Assistant’s schedule shall not exceed forty (40) sessions per week. The actual hours of work will be determined by the Chief Dental Officer.


Education and Experience-The Dental Assistant shall possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school. Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety. The Dental Assistant shall be certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association and must be maintained on their own time. The assistant must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience providing chair-side dental assisting services or be a Registered Dental Assistant. Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable.


Description of Duties-All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Dental Assistant Services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The contractor shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), and American Correctional Association Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions. The contractor’s performance shall be monitored by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). The contractor must be able to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

The Dental Assistant must possess the ability to collect and track data and enter data into the agency’s electronic system and track scheduling of patient care and must have knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.
