Optometrist

Location: Marysville / Yuba City, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 8-hour or 10-hour shifts; No required weekends; Phone-only on-call approximately every 6 weeks
Setting: Outpatient / Community Health Clinic
Patient Volume: Approximately 20 patients/day for 8-hour shifts and 25 patients/day for 10-hour shifts
Patient Population: All ages, from pediatric to geriatric

Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and patient-focused Optometrist to provide comprehensive primary eye and vision care in a community healthcare setting. The Optometrist will perform eye examinations, diagnose and manage ocular conditions within the scope of practice, prescribe corrective lenses and medications as permitted by law, and coordinate referrals when specialized ophthalmologic care is needed.

New graduates with strong academic preparation and clinical training are welcome to apply. Bilingual skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive eye examinations and assess visual acuity, perception, focus, and binocular coordination.

  • Diagnose and manage ocular diseases and visual abnormalities within the scope of optometric practice.

  • Analyze examination and diagnostic results and develop appropriate treatment plans.

  • Prescribe, fit, supply, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.

  • Prescribe medications for ocular conditions as permitted by state law.

  • Utilize diagnostic equipment including phoropters, slit lamps, retinal cameras, and tonometers.

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation using Epic EHR.

  • Order appropriate diagnostic tests and document acute and chronic conditions.

  • Follow up on specific disease categories and missed/no-show appointments.

  • Provide patient education regarding eye health, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

  • Follow established clinical protocols and treatment guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited school of optometry.

  • Active California optometry license.

  • National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) certification.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • Proficiency with optometric diagnostic equipment, including phoropters, slit lamps, retinal cameras, and tonometers.

  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Bilingual skills preferred.

  • New graduates may be considered with strong educational and clinical preparation.
