Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health / Mental Health
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Job Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time
Hourly Range: $28.90–$41.00, based on experience
License: Active Michigan RN License Required
Available Shifts
Multiple full-time shifts are available across Youth, High Acuity Adult, and Older Adult populations:
- Youth: Full-Time Nights – 32 or 36 hours; Full-Time Evenings – 32 hours
- High Acuity Adults: Full-Time Days – 36 hours; Full-Time Evenings – 32 hours; Full-Time Nights – 36 hours
- Older Adults: Full-Time Evenings – 32 hours; Full-Time Nights – 32 hours
Weekend and on-call requirements may apply depending on the assigned unit.
Shift Differentials
Additional pay may be available based on shift and day worked:
- 7 AM–3 PM: Saturday & Sunday – $1.25/hour
- 3 PM–11 PM: Monday–Thursday – $2.00/hour
- 3 PM–11 PM: Friday–Sunday – $3.00/hour
- 11 PM–7 AM: Monday–Thursday – $4.00/hour
- 11 PM–7 AM: Friday–Sunday – $5.00/hour
Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide patient-centered care in a behavioral health and mental health setting. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans, coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and promote a safe and supportive environment.
The RN will also provide clinical leadership, coordinate staff activities, educate patients and families, and support recovery-focused and person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and develop individualized plans of care.
- Continuously reassess patients and modify care plans based on changing needs.
- Coordinate nursing care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to diverse behavioral health populations.
- Monitor patients for safety risks and report concerns to physicians and appropriate clinical staff.
- Administer and coordinate nursing interventions within established standards of practice.
- Educate patients, families, and significant others regarding treatment, discharge, and aftercare planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
- Delegate and coordinate assignments for licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Provide clinical leadership and support staff development.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promote evidence-based nursing practices.
- Monitor and appropriately utilize healthcare resources.
- Assist with training direct-care staff as needed.
- Support medication management and physical health activities when required.
- May assist with scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
- May function as a charge nurse.
- Maintain required annual training and demonstrate competency in program-specific requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Professional knowledge of psychiatric/behavioral health nursing principles.
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and culturally inclusive patient care.
- Strong clinical assessment and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Physical and emotional stamina to work with diverse behavioral health populations.
- Ability to work effectively in potentially challenging clinical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Previous clinical experience preferred.
- Psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience highly preferred.
- Emergency Department (ED) experience will be considered.
- New graduates may be considered.
- Previous experience working with high-acuity behavioral health patients is a plus.
- Valid Michigan driver's license may be required for certain assignments.
