Job Description
Build What You Draw
Are you an AutoCAD Detailer or CAD Draftsperson who enjoys seeing your work go from a computer screen to an actual construction project?
We’re looking for a CAD Draftsperson to join our team and create detailed 2D drawings for metal building and construction projects. You’ll play an important role in taking project concepts, architectural plans, and specifications and turning them into accurate drawings that support fabrication, permitting, and field installation.
This is a great opportunity for someone with AutoCAD experience who wants to expand their knowledge of construction detailing, light-gauge steel, and structural systems while working alongside experienced shop, engineering, and field teams.
What You’ll Do
- Review project scopes, customer drawings, and specifications to identify inconsistencies, conflicts, and potential material issues before detailing begins.
- Create accurate 2D construction and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop drawings including:
- Foundation plans
- Floor plans
- Roof framing plans
- Roof sheeting plans
- Exterior elevations
- Corridor plans
- Detail plans
- Approval, permitting, and construction drawings
- Incorporate engineering revisions, field conditions, and project changes into drawings.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) using Microsoft Excel.
- Work closely with engineering, fabrication, installation, and other internal teams to resolve questions and provide accurate details.
- Help ensure drawings are complete, organized, accurate, and ready for the next stage of the project.
- Maintain an organized and productive workspace.
- Cross-train in other areas of the operation as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
- Knowledge or experience with light-gauge steel.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Ability to follow project specifications, instructions, and applicable building codes.
- Basic computer, math, and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, production, and field personnel.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Drafting certification or related technical education is a plus.
- Portfolio or examples of previous drafting/detailing work is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Experience That Will Stand Out
- Metal building drafting or detailing
- Construction detailing
- Light-gauge steel
- Structural steel
- Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB)
- Fabrication or manufacturing drawings
- Architectural or structural drafting
Why Join the Team?
You’ll have the opportunity to work on projects where your drawings have a direct impact on how a structure is fabricated, permitted, and ultimately built. This is more than simply producing drawings—you’ll gain hands-on exposure to construction, fabrication, engineering, and field installation.
