Overview
As a Specialty Surgery Counselor, you’ll be the patient’s guide through the surgery process and are responsible for providing a smooth and exceptional experience. Your strong detail orientation and multi-tasking skills will be essential to our success in our fast-paced, high-volume environment as you schedule surgeries and surgical appointments, verify insurance, and prepare charts for surgery.Responsibilities
Counsels patients for surgery by providing clear, concise details about what to expect
Reviews all surgery paperwork with patients; consent for procedures
Schedules all pertinent appointments, as appropriate by specialty: pre-operative and post-operative appointments to include the return appointment to the co-managing doctor.
- Fills surgeon’s schedules to capacity and knows appropriate steps to take to try to fill the day
Follows up on canceled procedures and patients who no show on day of procedure in which the case has not been rescheduled
Ensures all patient out of pocket money owed is collected prior to surgery (i.e. copays, coinsurance, deductible, premium lens, etc.).
Prepares surgical charts, labels documents with appropriate surgical paperwork
Helps maintain referring provider relationships
Helps create a quality patient experience
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
At least one-year experience working in medical field and counseling of surgical patients preferred
Experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Detailed oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
- Flexible schedule working Monday-Friday
