Compensation & Benefits Managing/Senior Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Compensation & Benefits Managing/Senior Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of experience to join a leading global law firm and its highly regarded Compensation & Benefits practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attorney to advise sophisticated clients on complex employee benefits matters involving public companies, high-growth businesses, and investors.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have strong substantive experience focused on tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare benefit plans. Additional compensation and benefits experience is a plus but is not required. The attorney will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to provide proactive, practical counsel on a broad range of compensation and benefits matters.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on tax-qualified retirement plans and related employee benefits matters.

  • Counsel clients regarding health and welfare benefit plans.

  • Advise public companies, innovative high-growth businesses, and investors on compensation and benefits matters.

  • Handle sophisticated employee benefits matters and provide practical, commercially focused legal guidance.

  • Conduct legal research and analysis regarding complex compensation and benefits issues.

  • Draft, review, and revise plan documents, amendments, communications, and other related materials.

  • Serve as a key member of client teams and collaborate with attorneys across practice areas.

  • Manage matters effectively while maintaining strong client relationships, organization, and attention to detail.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant law firm experience focused on compensation and benefits.

  • Strong substantive experience with tax-qualified retirement plans and health and welfare benefit plans required.

  • Additional compensation and benefits experience preferred but not required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, logical reasoning, and organizational abilities.

  • Highly motivated and capable of handling sophisticated matters with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Admission to the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the attorney will be located required.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $365,000–$435,000 annually, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, expertise, and geographic location. Additional compensation may include a discretionary merit bonus.
