Wound Care Nurse / Infection Preventionist

Nightingale at Arkadelphia is seeking a dedicated and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our long-term care team as a Wound Care Nurse and Infection Preventionist. This role oversees wound care services and infection prevention practices throughout the facility, provides floor nursing coverage as needed, and participates in a rotating weekend call schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Wound Care

  • Assess, monitor, and manage residents' wounds in accordance with current standards of care.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized wound care plans.

  • Perform wound treatments and dressing changes as ordered, documenting progress accurately.

  • Monitor residents for signs of infection, complications, and changes in wound condition.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing staff, residents, and families regarding wound care needs.

Infection Prevention

  • Serve as the facility's Infection Preventionist and oversee the infection prevention and control program.

  • Monitor, identify, investigate, and help prevent infections and communicable diseases among residents and staff.

  • Conduct infection surveillance and maintain accurate documentation and reports.

  • Provide education and training to staff on wound care, infection prevention, hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions, and related practices.

  • Participate in infection prevention audits, quality improvement activities, and facility assessments.

Nursing & Clinical Support

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Nursing and interdisciplinary team to address wound care and infection prevention concerns.

  • Provide floor nursing coverage when needed to support staffing and resident care needs.

  • Perform nursing duties within scope of licensure, including assessments, medication administration, treatments, documentation, and coordination of resident care.

  • Assist with resident emergencies and other clinical needs when nursing coverage is required.

  • Maintain professional communication with residents, families, physicians, staff, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Follow all facility policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal long-term care requirements.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license or LPN license in the state of Arkansas.

  • Wound care certification preferred but not required.

  • Previous wound care, long-term care, skilled nursing, or infection prevention experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of wound assessment, treatment, documentation, and infection prevention practices.

  • Excellent communication, organization, clinical judgment, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the nursing and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to provide floor nursing coverage when needed.

  • Willingness to participate in a rotating weekend call schedule.

  • Commitment to providing compassionate, safe, and high-quality care to long-term care residents.

Schedule

This position includes regular wound care and Infection Preventionist responsibilities, floor nursing coverage as needed, and participation in a rotating weekend call schedule. Flexibility is required to assist the nursing department and facility when staffing or resident care needs arise.
