Job Description
Qualifications for the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator:
Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
Experience in program development, management and clinical supervision preferred.
Ability to relate to terminally ill patients/families and their particular problems.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, telephone, documentation and communication skills.
Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff and interact professionally as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Job Duties:
Recruit volunteers to perform administrative, direct patient care or pet therapy
Responsible for orientation and ongoing training and supervision of volunteers consistent with the duties and functions to be performed.
Reviews appropriateness of volunteer involvement upon referral from nursing/social work personnel. Places volunteers where appropriate.
With other members of the Hospice Team, provide supervision and serves as a resource and liaison for volunteers.
Completes IDG care plans accurately and timely.
Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports indicating percentage of volunteer hours provided to patients and the cost saving to hospice.
Develops and maintains on file volunteer recruitment activity. Recruits interviews, conducts orientation and arranges training for new volunteers sufficient to satisfy Medicare COP for hospice program.
Coordinates an annual volunteer recognition event.
Responsible for volunteer retention. This may include support groups, telephone calls, flyers, meeting with the volunteers on an individual basis.
