Contract Radiation Therapist Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Contract Radiation Therapist to join our oncology team. As a Contract Radiation Therapist, you will play a critical role in the cancer treatment process, working directly with patients, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and other healthcare professionals to administer therapeutic radiation treatments. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to provide emotional support to patients during their treatment journey.

Primary ResponsibilitiesPatient Care and Treatment Delivery

• Administer prescribed radiation therapy treatments to patients according to physician orders and established protocols, ensuring accuracy and patient safety at all times
• Position patients with precision using immobilization devices and positioning aids to ensure treatment reproducibility and accuracy
• Operate linear accelerators and other radiation therapy equipment to deliver prescribed radiation doses to targeted treatment areas
• Monitor patients throughout treatment sessions, observing for adverse reactions and providing immediate intervention when necessary
• Document all treatment parameters, patient responses, and any deviations from the treatment plan in the Elekta Mosaiq EMR system
• Educate patients and their families about treatment procedures, potential side effects, and self-care strategies to manage treatment-related symptoms
• Provide compassionate emotional support to patients experiencing anxiety, fear, or distress related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment

CT Simulation and Treatment Planning

• Perform CT simulation procedures to acquire imaging data necessary for radiation treatment planning
• Position and immobilize patients during simulation using appropriate devices to ensure treatment setup reproducibility
• Apply radiopaque markers and create reference marks on patients to establish treatment coordinates
• Collaborate with dosimetrists and radiation oncologists during the treatment planning process to optimize treatment delivery
• Verify treatment plans and ensure all parameters are correctly entered into the treatment delivery system
