The Department of Human Services is seeking a Clerical Assistant 2 for the Somerset County Assistance Office, and this role allows you to be part of a busy team that keeps public services moving. You will engage with clients, assist staff, and complete key clerical work that ensures timely support for individuals in need. Every day provides new challenges that help build strong office skills. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports daily office operations by processing applications, managing records, and assisting clients across multiple service areas. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Application Processing: Register applications received by mail, walk in, drop off, or Compass and complete file clearance tasks
- Record Handling: Purge and combine reserve records, file closed cases, and prepare materials for shipment
- Client Reception: Greet visitors, assess their needs, call workers for appointments, and manage main phone console activity
- Mail Management: Distribute incoming mail, scan and attach required items, and upload postage to the mail machine as needed
- Card Services: Create and cut EBT cards, complete logs, obtain signatures, and support lost or stolen card processing
- Special Requests: Complete MIPAA requests and process CAOAA account checks in a timely manner

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
- Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
- Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Somerset, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from high school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
