Job Description
Reliability Engineer
Our client, a major player in the Wood Products industry, is seeking a Reliability Engineer for one of their sawmills, located in Ashland ME. The position offers an excellent salary, 401K matching, top tier benefits, and a full relocation package.
- Raise critical-asset availability by cutting unplanned downtime through failure analysis, prioritized work, and closed-loop corrective actions within the first year.
- Stand up and sustain a preventive and predictive maintenance program (including PVM) so planned work becomes the default, not the exception.
- Lead root-cause investigations on chronic losses and implement fixes that hold—documented, verified, and shared with operations and trades.
- Coach operators and mechanics so mechanical skill and equipment knowledge rise on the floor, not only in a report.
- Partner with E&I, operations, and process support to restore equipment to standard and lock in operating conditions that prevent repeat issues.
- Use data from inspections, CMMS, and production to rank risks, defend work lists, and prove reliability gains to site leadership.
- Drive safety and quality as non-negotiables: every job planned and executed so people go home well and product meets spec.
You will work on-site with production, maintenance, and process teams across the company manufacturing network. You report into site or divisional maintenance/reliability leadership, with access to CMMS, PM systems, trades support, and the broader Irving group for training and progression. Expect a results culture that values getting it done, sharing what works, and growing across divisions.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and industrial maintenance or reliability experience (journeyman-level skill or equivalent hands-on depth).
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot production equipment, restore it to standard, and prevent recurrence—not just patch it.
- Comfort with PM/PdM programs, basic data and math, and computer systems used to plan and record work.
- Safety-first habit: you can speak to how you have made the workplace safer for yourself and others.
- Self-managed problem solver who trains and coaches others and works cleanly with operations and E&I.
- Willingness to work the site’s operating reality, including shift coverage when the asset needs you.
- Impact at scale: reliability work that shows up in uptime, cost, and customer service across a 20,000-person, multi-industry group.
- Growth paths across paper, forestry, logistics, shipbuilding, and more—not a dead-end specialist seat.
- A culture that invests in training, inclusion, and people who raise the bar—even if you do not tick every box on day one.
- Competitive pay and benefits, plus the chance to build something that lasts.
