Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

• Post-Anesthesia Assessment: Conduct comprehensive post-anesthesia evaluations, with a heavy emphasis on airway management, hemodynamic stability, and pain control.
• Patient Monitoring: Observe patients for adverse effects of anesthesia, monitoring level of consciousness and vital signs throughout the sedation recovery process.
• Medication Administration: Safely administer post-operative medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
• Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the broader healthcare team to prioritize patient acuity and smooth unit flow.
• Patient & Family Education: Educate patients and their families regarding post-operative care and provide clear discharge instructions.

• Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN or MSN is strongly preferred.
• Licensure: Current, active Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 90 days to 1 year of hire (depending on unit).
  • PACU certification is strongly preferred.
• Experience: Prior RN experience in PACU, ICU, or the OR is strongly preferred.
