Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher – Adapted Curriculum (Secondary) provides specialized instruction and behavioral support to students with disabilities by developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The role adapts curriculum, delivers individualized instruction, supports students in the least restrictive environment, collaborates with families and multidisciplinary teams, monitors student progress, manages classroom behavior, and ensures compliance with special education regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Adapt lessons and instructional materials to meet individual student needs and IEP goals.
- Conduct and support Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Provide instructional and behavioral interventions to support student success.
- Assess students' academic, behavioral, and social needs.
- Ensure compliance with state and district assessment requirements and student accommodations.
- Collaborate with parents, school staff, therapists, and other specialists to maximize student outcomes.
- Manage student behavior using evidence-based strategies.
- Supervise and support paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Collect, analyze, and use student data to guide instructional decisions.
- Maintain an organized, structured classroom that promotes student independence.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.
- Participate in professional development and continuous learning activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Eligible for or currently holding a Virginia Teaching License with Special Education Adaptive Curriculum K–12 endorsement.
- Knowledge of special education instructional strategies and best practices.
- Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to modify instruction based on individual student needs.
- Commitment to inclusive education and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Experience with data-driven decision-making and behavioral support strategies.
