Nursing Director - Obstetrics
Position Overview
A premier hospital organization in South Texas is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursing Director of Obstetrics. This leadership role provides comprehensive strategic support to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The Director assumes 24/7 accountability for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice across multiple women's services units. The ideal candidate will serve as a professional role model and advocate, ensuring high-quality, safe patient care, staff competency, and efficient resource management.
Key Responsibilities
- Executive Collaboration: Assist the CNO in executing hospital-wide nursing initiatives and designated patient care functions.
- Operational Leadership: Maintain 24/7 administrative and clinical oversight for assigned multi-unit obstetric areas.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure the delivery of safe, appropriate, and evidence-based nursing care across all managed departments.
- Staff Development: Monitor and promote clinical competency among nursing and support staff.
- Resource Management: Direct budget allocations, staffing grids, and material resources effectively to optimize patient care.
- Advocacy: Serve as a clinical role model and champion for the professional discipline of nursing.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN), Business Administration (MBA), or a healthcare-related field.
Experience
- Required: Minimum of 2 years of progressive hospital management experience (Manager or Director level).
- Required: Direct, hands-on clinical or leadership experience within Women’s Services (Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby, or NICU).
- Preferred: Proven experience managing high-acuity patient populations, complex cases, or Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).
Licenses and Certifications
- Required: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or residence.
- Required: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
