Registered Nurse – MedSurg / Telemetry

Location - Atlanta, GA

Duration - 13 Weeks


Unit: PCU / IMCU – Cardiac Population
Experience Required: Minimum 2 Years

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg / Telemetry to provide high-quality care in a 28-bed Progressive Care/Intermediate Care Unit (PCU/IMCU) with a strong cardiac patient population.

The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of documented MedSurg/Telemetry experience in their work history, preferably in a similar-sized acute-care facility. The RN should be comfortable caring for cardiac patients with varying acuity levels, including patients requiring cardiac drips and close monitoring.

Patient Population

The RN will primarily care for patients with cardiac and medical conditions, including:

  • STEMI – ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction
  • NSTEMI – Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction
  • Cardiac Surgery (CTS)
  • Chest Pain (C/P)
  • Complex cardiac conditions
  • Medical/Surgical patients requiring telemetry monitoring

The unit may also assign lower-acuity telemetry patients within the same unit based on staffing and patient-care needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to PCU/IMCU and MedSurg/Telemetry patients.
  • Perform thorough initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize significant changes in patient condition.
  • Care for patients experiencing acute and complex cardiac conditions.
  • Provide care to STEMI and NSTEMI patients.
  • Care for patients following cardiac surgery and other cardiovascular procedures.
  • Monitor patients presenting with chest pain and other cardiac symptoms.
  • Safely administer and monitor cardiac drips, including:
    • Milrinone
    • Dobutamine
    • Vasopressors/Pressors
  • Monitor patients receiving high-risk IV medications and promptly identify adverse reactions or changes in condition.
  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other clinical parameters.
  • Recognize signs of clinical deterioration and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, cardiology teams, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Participate in patient handoffs and ensure continuity of care.
  • Follow infection-control, medication-safety, patient-safety, and hospital policies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and changes in patient status.
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years of MedSurg/Telemetry experience.
  • MedSurg/Telemetry experience must be clearly documented in the candidate's work history.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar-sized acute-care facility preferred/required based on facility criteria.
  • Previous experience in a PCU, IMCU, Telemetry, or comparable acute-care setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience caring for cardiac patients.
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring and telemetry.
  • Experience managing patients receiving cardiac drips.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to patient deterioration.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
