Job Duties

• Provide on-unit safety and security for individuals receiving care in a secure behavioral health setting, maintaining a safe and structured environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Monitor patient behavior and unit activity, recognizing changes in behavior, potential safety concerns, or situations requiring intervention.
• Escort patients to and from appointments, meals, recreational activities, therapeutic programs, work assignments, and other approved activities.
• Respond appropriately to behavioral emergencies, including assisting clinical staff with crisis interventions, patient restraints, or seclusion procedures in accordance with established policies and training.
• Monitor patients placed in seclusion or other enhanced observation settings and promptly report changes in behavior or condition to clinical staff.
• Conduct authorized searches of patient rooms, clothing, and common areas to identify prohibited items, contraband, safety hazards, or unusual conditions.
• Help prevent unauthorized departures or other security incidents by maintaining appropriate observation and following established security procedures.
• Provide direct patient support by assisting with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, meals, laundry, room care, and other activities of daily living as appropriate.
• Encourage patients to develop and maintain independence with daily living skills, personal care, clothing care, room maintenance, and social interactions.
• Facilitate and participate in recreational, therapeutic, and structured activities designed to promote positive patient engagement.
• Assist nursing and clinical staff with patient care and treatment activities within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitary patient living areas by performing basic housekeeping duties, including removing waste, cleaning floors, and managing laundry.
• Prepare accurate and timely documentation regarding patient behavior, unit activities, incidents, interventions, patient movement, and other required information.
• Maintain unit communication logs, daily activity records, shift reports, incident documentation, work orders, and other required records.
• Ensure appropriate supplies, clothing, and cleaning materials are available and properly maintained.
• Participate in staff meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training, and other professional development activities.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, including medical emergencies, fires, disturbances, or other events requiring immediate action.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with organizational policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable requirements related to patient care and secure behavioral health operations.
