About this job
Job Description
A well-established senior living community in Fairfield County is seeking an experienced, highly engaged Director of Nursing to lead nursing operations for our Assisted Living and Memory Care programs.
We are looking for a hands-on nursing leader who takes ownership of the department—someone who is comfortable leading from the floor, developing staff, managing schedules and labor, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring residents and families receive exceptional care and communication.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced RN leader who enjoys both clinical nursing and operational leadership and wants the ability to make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for nursing services
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a strong team of nurses and CNAs
- Maintain appropriate staffing and ensure reliable shift coverage
- Actively manage schedules, overtime, agency utilization, call-outs, and nursing labor
- Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for attendance, performance, documentation, and resident care
- Maintain a visible presence within the community and regularly round with residents and staff
- Support the nursing team when unexpected staffing or clinical needs arise
- Ensure resident assessments, service plans, care documentation, and required follow-up are accurate and completed timely
- Maintain compliance with Connecticut assisted living regulations and community policies
- Oversee medication management, clinical documentation, incident follow-up, competencies, and staff education
- Investigate resident care concerns and implement corrective action when necessary
- Communicate effectively and professionally with residents, families, physicians, hospice/home care providers, and other clinical partners
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and department leadership team
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, staff engagement, and resident satisfaction
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and mutual support
What We Are Looking For
- Current Connecticut RN license in good standing
- Nursing leadership or management experience required
- Assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or senior living experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of clinical operations, staffing, scheduling, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, motivate, and hold staff accountable
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable making decisions and addressing performance issues promptly
- Ability to balance quality resident care with responsible labor management
- Willingness to be visible, accessible, and actively involved in day-to-day nursing operations
The Leader We Need
Our ideal candidate understands that successful nursing leadership requires more than clinical expertise. We are seeking someone who owns the operation, anticipates problems, follows through, supports the team, and develops solutions rather than waiting for issues to escalate.
You should enjoy building teams, setting expectations, solving staffing challenges, improving systems, and creating an environment where excellent employees want to stay.
This position requires a leader who can be compassionate while maintaining clear standards and accountability.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
You will join an established senior living community with an experienced leadership team and the opportunity to have a significant influence on nursing operations, staff culture, and resident care.
Competitive compensation and benefits will be discussed with qualified candidates.
All inquiries and applications will be handled confidentially.
Qualified RN leaders are encouraged to submit a resume outlining their nursing leadership and senior living experience.
