Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong understanding of workplace safety practices
Experience Requirements
- Previous forklift experience required
- 1 year of experience in a steel yard, warehouse, manufacturing, shipping, or material-handling environment
- Experience loading trailers and securing freight is a plus
- Yard dog or terminal tractor experience preferred
- Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and steel materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to shipping accuracy
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Knowledge of load securement procedures and material staging practices
- Ability to adapt to changing workloads and shipping priorities
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required
- Ability to climb on and off semi-trailers throughout the shift
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical labor for extended periods
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions
- Ability to safely work around moving equipment, trailers, and steel products
- Able to lift 50 lbs. + steel-toe boots
Job Duties
- Operate forklifts daily to move, organize, and stage steel materials
- Prepare materials for shipment and load trailers efficiently and safely
- Verify all materials and quantities before trailers are released for shipment
- Secure loads using straps and other approved load-securing methods
- Maintain a clean, organized, and debris-free yard and work area
- Position, move, and organize trailers within the yard as needed
- Communicate load status, completed tasks, and shipping updates to supervisors
- Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Assist with additional yard, shipping, and material-handling duties as assigned
