Work Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (30-min lunch; slight schedule adjustments possible)

Base Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000 / year + Monthly License Stipends

License & Certification Bonuses (Added directly to base pay):

  • CCS Designation: +$400/month (Increases total annual compensation up to $69,800)
  • Customs Broker License (LCB): +$720/month (Increases total annual compensation up to $73,640)

Position Summary

A premier, established logistics and customs brokerage firm near JFK is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Customs Entry Writer / Import Operations Specialist to join their dedicated Customs Brokerage team.

This is an ideal opportunity for an import operations, logistics, or brokerage support candidate who possesses strong foundational knowledge of import documentation and is ready to step into or build their direct customs entry writing career. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process basic to intermediate import customs entries through CBP systems.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading to ensure regulatory compliance and accuracy.
  • Learn and apply Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification under senior guidance.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) such as FDA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Track shipment releases, examinations, and holds, proactively updating clients on cargo status.
  • Collaborate with operations teams, air/ocean carriers, terminals, and local JFK/port recovery entities to ensure efficient cargo movement.
  • Maintain accurate, highly organized compliance records according to regulatory and company standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1-3+ years of hands-on experience in Import Operations, Logistics Coordination, or Brokerage Support. Candidates with operational experience looking to transition into full entry writing are encouraged to apply.
  • Documentation Skills: Practical experience handling core import paperwork (Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, House/Master Bills of Lading, Pre-alerts).
  • Industry Knowledge: Basic familiarity with U.S. Customs processes, foundational HTS classification concepts, and local NY/NJ port or JFK airport recovery workflows.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with logistics management software (e.g., CargoWise, Magaya, ACE) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong organization, and clear verbal/written communication skills.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior direct exposure to submitting entry summaries or basic entry drafting.
  • Active Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or actively working toward it.
  • Active U.S. Customs Broker License (LCB).
