Job Title: Environmental Technician

Job Description

The Environmental Technician supports field operations in construction materials testing, traveling to project sites to perform tests on soils, concrete, asphalt, and other materials. This role offers hands-on experience on meaningful construction and engineering projects while learning directly from experienced professionals across multiple disciplines. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in the field and wants to build a long-term career in construction materials testing and civil engineering services.

Responsibilities

  • Support field operations related to construction materials testing across a variety of project sites.
  • Travel from site to site to perform testing on soils and concrete in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Conduct construction materials testing activities, including work with concrete, asphalt, and other materials as needed.
  • Use field testing equipment, such as nuclear gauges, to evaluate material properties and document results accurately.
  • Follow safety-first practices at all times, adhering to company and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Work closely with experienced professionals across multiple disciplines to learn proper testing methods and industry standards.
  • Maintain clear, accurate records of tests performed and communicate findings to project teams as required.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in field work and a willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by seeking opportunities to grow skills and knowledge in construction materials testing.

Essential Skills

  • Strong desire to work in the field and travel between construction sites.
  • Basic understanding or exposure to construction or engineering environments.
  • Interest in construction materials testing, including soils and concrete.
  • Ability to follow standardized testing procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Willingness to learn and work with field testing equipment such as nuclear gauges.
  • Capability to work outdoors and in varying site conditions.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with project teams and document test results clearly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in construction or engineering environments is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with concrete testing and related practices.
  • Exposure to asphalt testing and materials testing is a plus.
  • Knowledge or certification related to ACI (concrete) is advantageous.
  • NICET certification or progress toward NICET credentials in relevant disciplines is a plus.
  • Interest in civil engineering and construction materials testing as a long-term career path.
  • Motivation to pursue professional certifications and ongoing training opportunities.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with frequent travel from site to site to perform materials testing on active construction projects. The work takes place outdoors and in various construction environments, requiring comfort with changing weather, site conditions, and hands-on use of testing equipment such as nuclear gauges and other materials testing tools. This is a Contract position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
