Job Description

This leadership role focuses on building, managing, and growing environmental and construction services operations in the Charlotte or Raleigh market. The Environmental Services Leader manages a diverse portfolio of environmental projects, leads project teams, drives business development, and shapes the strategic growth of a regional environmental practice with strong internal support and an expanding project pipeline.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow environmental and construction services operations in the Charlotte or Raleigh market, setting direction and priorities for the regional practice.
• Manage and execute a variety of environmental projects, including Brownfields redevelopment and assessment, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and due diligence services for developers and institutional clients.
• Oversee industrial, hazardous waste, and solid waste projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality technical delivery.
• Direct asbestos and lead-based paint inspections and management activities, as well as Underground Storage Tank (UST) assessments as needed.
• Serve as a project manager and team leader, overseeing staff, project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships with developers, school systems and higher education institutions, architects and engineers, and municipal and county agencies.
• Build and maintain a diverse project backlog, actively identifying and pursuing new opportunities to expand service offerings and market presence.
• Contribute to strategic growth by identifying new market sectors, refining service lines, and supporting long-term business development initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with regional teams, including Southeast and Atlanta operations, to leverage internal resources and deliver integrated solutions.
• Balance operations management, project delivery, and business development responsibilities to achieve revenue growth and practice sustainability.
• Ensure all projects meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations through effective oversight and technical guidance.
• Represent the practice in professional and business development organizations, strengthening the firm’s visibility and reputation in the environmental market.

Essential Skills

• 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related fields, with strong technical and project management capabilities.
• Up to 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting field preferred; lesser years of experience may be considered for the right candidate.
• Proven track record of environmental department or office management, including revenue growth and successful practice leadership.
• Demonstrated success in Brownfields and redevelopment projects, including assessment, planning, and implementation.
• Strong technical expertise across multiple disciplines such as due diligence, industrial and hazardous waste, environmental compliance, solid waste, and UST assessments.
• Proven experience working with developers and institutional clients, including schools, higher education, and public sector entities.
• Experience managing complex projects, multidisciplinary teams, and long-term client relationships.
• Ability to balance operations, project delivery, and business development responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
• Professional licensure as a PG (Professional Geologist), PE (Professional Engineer), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), or similar credential.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide teams, make decisions, and drive practice growth.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to present to clients and coordinate multiple concurrent projects.

• Active involvement in professional and business development organizations within the environmental sector.
• Well-established professional network in the North Carolina or broader Southeast environmental market.
• Ability to understand existing client types and expand services within those markets or identify alternative sectors to grow the department.
• Established network with developers, institutional clients, and public agencies preferred.
• Experience collaborating with regional operations teams to leverage shared resources and expertise.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to identify new opportunities, expand service offerings, and support long-term practice development.
• Versatility in managing a diverse portfolio of environmental services and adapting to evolving client needs.

Work Environment

This position is based in Charlotte, NC (preferred) or Raleigh, NC, and requires the candidate to be local to either CLT or RDU. The role operates in a professional consulting environment, working closely with regional teams and leveraging strong internal support from established Southeast operations. The work involves a mix of office-based planning, client interaction, and oversight of field activities across a diverse portfolio of environmental services. The environment suits a proactive leader who thrives in a build-and-grow setting, enjoys collaborating across offices, and is comfortable managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously. The practice offers an expanding project pipeline, including recent public sector contract wins, a leadership role with clear visibility and impact, and a competitive benefits package.

This is a Permanent position based out of Raleigh, NC.

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $170000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
