We are looking for a Patient Access Specialist to support patient intake and registration activities for a healthcare organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This contract-to-permanent/direc hire opportunity is ideal for someone who is comfortable assisting patients, verifying coverage details, and maintaining accurate registration records in a fast-paced hospital setting. The person in this role will help create a smooth arrival experience by combining strong customer service with careful attention to compliance, documentation, and financial clearance processes. This role is (4)10-hour shifts, 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM, with every other weekend a Saturday or Sunday.



Responsibilities:

• Welcome patients and complete registration and admission tasks for scheduled and walk-in services while ensuring records are accurate and complete.

• Gather demographic, insurance, and referral information, confirm coverage details, and enter documentation needed to support billing and reimbursement workflows.

• Prepare patient accounts in advance of appointments through pre-registration activities, including phone outreach to collect missing information and review financial responsibility.

• Explain consent forms, treatment acknowledgments, and required patient notices, securing signatures and documenting completion in accordance with organizational standards.

• Perform medical necessity and compliance checks for applicable services, including notifying patients when coverage limitations or non-payment concerns may apply.

• Support point-of-service collection efforts by discussing copays, outstanding balances, and available payment arrangements in a thorough and compassionate manner.

• Review patient accounts for accuracy, correct registration issues, and use audit and reporting processes to help improve account quality across teams and locations.

• Process physician orders, assign medical record numbers correctly, provide appointment or service instructions, and deliver responsive service that reflects a patient-centered approach.

• Experience in patient registration, patient access, scheduling, or a similar healthcare front-end support role.
• Working knowledge of medical insurance verification, eligibility review, and collection of accurate patient demographic information.
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and staff while handling sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete forms, maintain accurate records, and follow compliance-related procedures.
• Comfortable discussing patient financial responsibility, including point-of-service payments and past-due balances.
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload and adapt to various shifts, including a rotating Saturday schedule.
• Proficiency with healthcare registration systems and basic computer applications used for documentation, verification, and account review.
