ROLE SUMMARY

The Medical Laboratory Technologist supports accurate, timely, and reliable clinical laboratory testing. This non-supervisory role performs specimen processing and assigned moderate- and high-complexity testing in accordance with laboratory procedures, quality requirements, manufacturer instructions, applicable regulations, and documented training and competency.

The technologist works closely with the leadership and laboratory team to maintain quality, investigate testing issues, document corrective actions, and ensure that patient results are not released until the testing system is functioning within established performance specifications.

Responsibilities:
  • Process, identify, sort, log, and prepare specimens in accordance with laboratory procedures and specimen acceptance requirements.

  • Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing using applicable manual methods and laboratory instrumentation, mainly general chemistry methods as authorized for the role.

  • Review quality control data, calibrations, maintenance records, and instrument performance to support reliable results.

  • Recognize unexpected results, instrument or process issues, and conditions that may affect test performance; take appropriate action and promptly notify supervisory or technical personnel.

  • Document deviations, investigations, corrective actions, maintenance, quality control activities, and patient-result records accurately and in accordance with good documentation practices.

  • Withhold patient results when required until corrective or remedial actions are complete and the test system is operating acceptably.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and troubleshooting according to laboratory procedures and applicable manufacturer instructions.

  • Test proficiency-testing samples in the same manner as patient specimens and maintain required records.

  • Follow laboratory safety, bloodborne-pathogen, infection-control, confidentiality, and personal-protective-equipment requirements.

  • Maintain an organized workstation, complete temperature checks, and store reagents and supplies as directed.

  • Participate in training, competency assessment, continuing education, validation or correlation activities, and process-improvement work as assigned.

  • Support specimen pickup, supply receiving, or other operational activities when assigned and trained to perform them.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Who you are / Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in similar role

  • 1 year experience running and troubleshooting Chemistry analyzers 

  • Individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or a bachelor’s degree plus a Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT), as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required.

  • Ability to work the assigned 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m. schedule on either Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday.
  • High ability to communicate in English, written and verbally, within all levels of the organization

  • Highly self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to perform assigned procedures only after required training and competency assessment.

  • Ability to read and follow laboratory procedures, manufacturer instructions, quality-control requirements, and safety procedures.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Google Workspace, and laboratory information systems or other proprietary software.

  • Ability to organize work, prioritize competing specimens or tasks, communicate effectively, and escalate problems promptly in a fast paced changing environment

The actual hourly salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, market data/ranges, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for a yearly bonus.
