Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Syracuse, NY
Duration: 3 Months – Potential Extension
Schedule: Full-Time, 8-Hour Shifts

Available Shifts

  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
  • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical and clinical operations in a healthcare setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and effective decontamination, disinfection, assembly, inspection, and sterilization of surgical instruments, equipment, and instrument trays used in the Operating Room and other clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper condition.
  • Assemble both simple and complex surgical instrument sets according to established procedures and guidelines.
  • Operate and monitor sterilization and processing equipment, including:
    • Steam sterilizers
    • STERIS systems
    • STERRAD systems
  • Apply appropriate aseptic techniques throughout the sterile processing workflow.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure instruments and trays meet established standards.
  • Accurately document sterilization, decontamination, and quality-control activities.
  • Prepare surgical trays and instruments for use in the Operating Room and other clinical areas.
  • Respond promptly to urgent and emergent requests from clinical and surgical personnel.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing environment.
  • Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with Operating Room staff, nurses, surgical teams, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure all instruments and equipment are processed according to established departmental procedures.
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Certifications
  • CRCST – Certified Registered Central Service Technician, OR
  • CBSPD – Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
  • BLS – American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Previous experience working in a Sterile Processing Department (SPD) preferred.
  • Experience with surgical instrument decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization.
  • Familiarity with steam sterilizers, STERIS, and STERRAD systems.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and sterile processing standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
