Maintenance Technical Writer

Position overview

Client is seeking a Maintenance Technical Writer to develop the full documentation library that will support the maintenance program at the new facility. Working closely with the Maintenance Planner/Clerk and the broader maintenance team, this role will create the standard operating procedures, work instructions, and PM documentation needed to support a safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance operation from day one.

Key responsibilities
•       Write clear, accurate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasks across all equipment and systems at the new facility
•       Develop step-by-step work instructions for technicians to follow when performing routine and corrective maintenance jobs
•       Create Preventive Maintenance procedure documents to accompany PM tasks built in the eMaint CMMS, ensuring technicians have written guidance for every scheduled task
•       Develop Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all applicable equipment in compliance with OSHA standards
•       Review and interpret OEM equipment manuals, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to produce accurate, usable documentation
•       Collaborate with Maintenance Manager, Planner/Clerk, and lead technicians to validate accuracy of all written procedures
•       Organize and maintain the documentation library, version control, naming conventions, and document management
•       Support technician onboarding by developing training materials and procedure quick-reference guides
•       Revise and update documentation as equipment, processes, or regulations change

Required qualifications
•       2+ years of experience in technical writing within a manufacturing, industrial, or maintenance environment
•       Demonstrated ability to write SOPs, work instructions, and maintenance procedures from OEM documentation and subject matter expert input
•       Strong understanding of manufacturing maintenance operations and equipment terminology
•       Experience writing or reviewing LOTO procedures in compliance with OSHA 
•       Excellent written communication skills — ability to translate complex technical content into clear, concise language for technician-level readers
•       Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and document management systems

Preferred qualifications
•       Experience supporting a new facility launch or greenfield startup environment
•       Familiarity with food & beverage or food-grade manufacturing environments and GMP documentation requirements
•       Experience working alongside a CMMS implementation, ability to align written procedures with PM tasks in the system
•       Knowledge of ISO or other quality management documentation standards a plus
