About Moyer:
Moyer is a family-owned business that’s three generations strong, serving the Greater Washington, DC – Baltimore Metro area. Moyer is a one-stop shop for moving, storage and move management solutions. We’re a growing company with deep Maryland roots and a small-business feel — not a corporation. We help families navigate major life transitions — downsizing, relocating, and moving into senior living communities — with the kind of care and attention you’d expect from someone moving their own family. White-glove service isn’t an upgrade for us; it’s our standard. When our clients are in the middle of one of life’s biggest changes, our promise is simple: our family has your family covered. The people who join our team share that same commitment to doing right by every client we serve. Our team is dispersed but deeply connected. If that sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.
Job description:
Build the systems that let our people do their best work.
We're looking for a VP of Human Resources who can see the big picture and hold it — designing the platforms, policies, and processes that let a growing, family-owned company operate like the professional organization it's becoming, without losing the culture that got us here. This is a strategic role, but not a purely strategic one: you'll architect our HR infrastructure across both affiliated businesses (Moyer & Sons Moving & Storage and Moyer Move Management) while staying hands-on — fielding day-to-day questions, sitting with managers through hard conversations, and stepping in when something needs to get done. You'll advise leadership on HR strategy and compliance, build the systems our HR function runs on, and stay close enough to daily operations to know what's actually happening on the ground.
What you'll actually be doing:
• Owning HR strategy — translating company goals into policies and systems that scale as we grow
• Designing and implementing HR platforms and processes (HRIS, ATS, payroll integrations, onboarding), and evaluating vendors as
needed
• Advising leadership on employment law compliance and flagging risk before it becomes a problem
• Serving as the go-to for HR decisions — compensation, benefits, performance management, terminations, and organizational
structure
• Leading recruiting strategy while staying ready to jump into sourcing, screening, or onboarding directly
• Managing benefits administration, leave compliance, and payroll oversight, rolling up your sleeves when it's faster than delegating
• Building reporting and metrics that give leadership visibility into headcount, turnover, and compliance status
You may enjoy this role if you:
• Like building systems and structure where there's currently ambiguity
• Move fluidly between strategic planning and hands-on execution
• Enjoy being the go-to for a clear-headed answer on a messy HR question
• Are energized by a growing company where the playbook is still being written
This role may not be for you if:
• You prefer a purely strategic role, removed from day-to-day execution
• You'd rather follow an established playbook than build one
What it takes to succeed:
Strategic and systems-minded: You see how today's decisions play out a year or three down the line.
Sound judgment: Leadership trusts your read on people situations and compliance risk.
Roll-up-your-sleeves mentality: You're as comfortable in the weeds as you are building a roadmap.
Tech-savvy: You evaluate and administer HR platforms, always looking for a better way to run the function.
Clear communicator: You explain a compliance requirement to ownership and a benefits question to a new hire with equal clarity. Preference for candidates who have professional-level fluency in Spanish.
Apply If:
You want to build the HR function of a growing, family-owned company — shaping strategy at a high level while staying close enough to the ground to make a daily difference for the people who work here.
