Job Overview for Shipping and Receiving Clerk
The Lee Group is looking for a Shipping and Receiving Clerk to work at one of our valued clients in Richmond, VA. This full-time position plays an important role in supporting manufacturing and warehouse operations by receiving, storing, picking, packing, and distributing parts and materials while maintaining accurate inventory.
As a Shipping and Receiving Clerk I, you will work with production schedules, customer orders, work orders, and shipping documentation to keep materials moving efficiently throughout the facility. You will operate forklifts and use RF scanners and computer systems to accurately track inventory and transactions. If you have solid warehouse material handling experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, we encourage you to apply!
Job Responsibilities of Shipping and Receiving Clerk
- Pick and pull customer sales orders, manufacturing work orders, and engineering work orders from locations throughout the facility.
- Accurately record material and component transactions using an RF scanner or desktop computer.
- Pack customer orders for small-package or LTL shipments according to established packaging requirements.
- Process shipments using applicable shipping and logistics software as needed.
- Safely operate sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, and order pickers.
- Accurately label sales orders and work orders.
- Use RF scanners and computers to access information, verify data, and maintain inventory accuracy.
- Investigate inventory inaccuracies or discrepancies and coordinate with appropriate personnel to resolve issues.
- Notify production planners or supervisors of material shortages that could affect order completion.
- Assist with packing and loading finished products.
- Receive incoming materials and accurately identify, record, label, and place materials into stock.
- Assist with material put-away and ensure components are delivered to the correct stocking locations.
- Use weight-counting equipment to accurately count larger quantities of materials and components.
- Perform cycle counts and physical inventory counts.
- Sort and place materials on racks, shelves, and in bins according to designated locations and product information.
- Coordinate with departments such as Engineering, Production Control, Purchasing, Shipping, and Customer Service to support accurate and timely order completion.
- Complete required documentation and paperwork accurately.
- Help maintain the quality and accuracy of goods being shipped.
- Assist team members with troubleshooting and other duties as needed.
Job Qualifications of Shipping and Receiving Clerk
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 24 months of warehouse material handling experience required.
- Ability to operate an order picker, reach truck, and sit-down forklift.
- Basic math and computer data entry skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply sound reasoning and judgment.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
- Ability to distinguish between manufactured and purchased components.
- Ability to work overtime as needed to complete assignments.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements of Shipping and Receiving Clerk
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 35 pounds independently and more than 35 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, including 8 or more hours when required.
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and tolerate heights.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including hearing and eye protection, gloves, and safety shoes.
