Tool Maker / Manual Machinist

Pottstown, PA | On-Site | Full-Time | Permanent

3+ years of toolmaking or manual machining experience required. Strong manual Bridgeport mill and engine lathe experience required.

Established manufacturer of custom metal components and assemblies is seeking a Tool Maker / Manual Machinist to build, modify, repair, and machine tooling, fixtures, jigs, machine components, and replacement parts used in industrial equipment and manufacturing.

This is custom machining, not high-volume production. Most work involves one-off, prototype, repair, and short-run projects.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual Bridgeport mills

  • Set up and operate manual engine lathes

  • Machine tooling, fixtures, jigs, machine components, and replacement parts

  • Read mechanical drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work instructions

  • Determine machining sequence, workholding, tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting methods

  • Perform milling, turning, drilling, tapping, boring, facing, threading, and reaming

  • Machine carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other alloys

  • Build and modify fixtures and tooling used in fabrication and welding

  • Repair and rework existing tooling and machine components

  • Machine components for industrial machinery and equipment

  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment

  • Hold dimensions and close tolerances specified on drawings

  • Work with engineering, fabrication, welding, and production on machining and tooling requirements

  • Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas

Requirements
  • 3+ years of toolmaking or manual machining experience

  • Strong Bridgeport mill setup and operating experience

  • Strong manual engine lathe experience

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and determine machining methods

  • Experience using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and related inspection equipment

  • Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, workholding, and conventional machining practices

  • Experience machining close-tolerance parts from drawings or sketches
