Legal Secretary
Washington, D.C. | Hybrid | $85,000–$100,000
A highly respected law firm focused exclusively on serving nonprofit organizations and philanthropic institutions is seeking a Legal Secretary to join its Washington, D.C. office.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal administrative professional who values a collaborative, mission-driven environment and enjoys supporting attorneys handling sophisticated corporate, tax, governance, and regulatory matters.
The firm advises nonprofit organizations and funders working across a wide range of causes, including education, healthcare, civil rights, social justice, environmental initiatives, philanthropy, and public advocacy. The environment is collegial, intellectually engaging, and highly team-oriented.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level administrative support to multiple attorneys
- Prepare, format, proofread, edit, and finalize legal documents and correspondence
- Manage attorney calendars and coordinate in-person and virtual meetings
- Track deadlines and maintain organized electronic and physical files
- Assist with client intake, engagement letters, and conflicts checks
- Support billing and other accounting-related administrative functions
- Communicate with attorneys, clients, and internal staff to keep matters moving efficiently
- Coordinate projects and manage multiple competing priorities with accuracy and professionalism
- Maintain organized workflows and provide proactive administrative support
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a corporate legal secretary or legal administrative professional
- Law firm experience strongly preferred
- Nonprofit or tax law experience is a plus
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook 365, DocuSign, and Zoom
- Experience with a document management system such as iManage, NetDocuments, or Worldox
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft 365
- Strong proofreading, formatting, grammar, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure
- Proactive, adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Hybrid Schedule
New employees work fully in-office during their first three months. After the initial training period, the position transitions to a hybrid schedule of:
- 2 days in-office per week
- 3 days remote per week
- Wednesdays are an in-office collaboration day
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $85,000–$100,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
