Job Title: Skilled Underground Utilities Equipment Operator (Travel Required)
Position Type: Full-Time / Field-Based
Travel: 100% (Northern and Central NY)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underground Utilities Equipment Operator to join our utility crew. This role requires operating heavy machinery to excavate, install, and backfill sanitary sewers, storm drains, water mains, and electrical conduits. You must be willing to travel extensively to various project locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Operation: Safely operate large excavators, loaders, trenchers, backhoes, and skid loaders
• Utility Installation: Lay pipe, backfill, and set structures to precise line and grade, grading and restoration.
• Trench Safety: Strictly utilize trench boxes, shoring, and shielding in compliance with OSHA.
• Damage Prevention: Verify standard utility markings before digging.
• Daily Inspections: Complete pre-shift machinery, safety checks and routine maintenance.
• Crew Support: Assist ground crews with pipe hooking and rigging when not operating.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years operating heavy equipment on underground utility projects.
• Travel Flexibility: Full willingness to travel and relocate near active jobsites for extended durations.
• Safety Training: OSHA 10-Hour certification and Competent Person training in trenching and excavation.
• Licensing: Valid driver’s license. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
