Job Title: Fabricator/Welder

Job Description

This role focuses on fabricating high-quality structural steel components in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. You will work as part of a collaborative team to interpret shop drawings, perform accurate layout and fit-up, and support welding and cutting operations that contribute to complex projects nationwide. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to meeting high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret shop drawings and blueprints to American Welding Society (AWS) standards and ensure all work meets specified requirements.
  • Accurately lay out and fit structural steel parts using basic hand tools and precise tape measure readings.
  • Apply knowledge of shop tolerances, code requirements, and weld symbols to ensure components meet fabrication standards.
  • Proficiently interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and follow them during fabrication and welding tasks.
  • Perform basic tacking and MIG welding as needed to assemble and secure components for production.
  • Use oxy/fuel torches to flame cut and heat straighten steel components safely and effectively.
  • Operate plasma cutting equipment to cut steel parts according to drawings and specifications.
  • Perform basic setup and adjustments on welding machines, including replacing rollers, welding leads, and regulators, and setting amperage and voltage to tune the welder.
  • Operate a variety of fabrication equipment such as grinders, needle scalers, and basic MIG welding equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and deliver high-quality products.
  • Perform tasks that may involve climbing, standing, stooping, and kneeling while handling materials safely.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and structural steel drawings to AWS standards.
  • Ability to interpret AWS welding symbols and understand WPS requirements.
  • Experience with structural steel fit-up and layout, including measuring, laying out, and fitting parts accurately before welding.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding and tack welding for assembly and production work.
  • Experience using plasma cutters and oxy-fuel torches for cutting and heat straightening steel components.
  • Knowledge of shop tolerances, code requirements, and fabrication standards.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply fabrication math to work within specified tolerances.
  • Ability to safely operate fabrication tools and shop equipment, including grinders, welding machines, needle scalers, and basic MIG welding equipment.
  • Capability to perform basic setup and tuning of welding machines, including adjusting amperage and voltage and replacing consumable components.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require climbing, standing, stooping, kneeling, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

You must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds while handling steel components and equipment. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.50 - $34.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
