Job Title: Machine Operator and Material HandlerJob Description

The Machine Operator is tasked with ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various machinery, including Granulator, Shredder, Color System, Wet Sorter System, and Extruder. This role encompasses material handling and maintaining high-quality output.

Responsibilities
  • Understand and apply information from the Run Instruction Sheet (RIS).
  • Set up, operate, shut down, troubleshoot, and clean the system and perform general maintenance of machines.
  • Take regular samples and probe boxes as instructed by RIS, reporting any discrepancies to lab personnel and supervisors.
  • Clean boxes, lids, and skids thoroughly before use, and dispose of substandard materials.
  • Complete the Run Number Time Log at each shift's end.
  • Update RIS and communicate relevant information promptly to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Keep accurate logs for production ledgers and quality control.
  • Complete Work in Process (WIP) or Ready for Sale (RFS) tags.
  • Accurately compute weights using correct gross, tare, and net figures.
  • Weigh materials in boxes and hoppers, recording weights appropriately.
  • Become certified as an operator on both a forklift and an aerial lift, as needed.
  • Assist in training new associates.
  • Load and unload materials, placing them in inventory locations using a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Compute pounds per hour processed during runs.
  • Compute percentages for documenting various run conditions and productivity standards.
  • Prepare boxes by placing labels correctly and removing extra labels.
  • Participate in shift meetings and training sessions.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to make mathematical computations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and machine operation skills.
  • Sit-down forklift experience.
  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift, with breaks.
  • Capacity to lift up to 65 lbs occasionally.
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 25 feet with proper safety harness.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Good handwriting for maintaining paper records.
  • Experience troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Steel-toed or composite-toed shoes are required.
  • Ability to work on mandated Saturdays if needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in a traditional manufacturing environment with large machines that may be two stories high. The work involves some exposure to dust and noise, requiring hearing and eye protection. The facility can be hot near certain machines in the summer and comfortably cool in the winter. The dress code prioritizes safety, requiring clothing that is not too loose or restrictive, and prohibits jewelry and certain types of attire. Employees will work in shifts, with options for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, and must adhere to safety protocols regarding personal protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
