This is an early-career licensed professional engineering position for a candidate with strong experience in private-sector land development design.
The successful candidate will perform independent civil engineering design, analysis, and project coordination under general supervision. This individual will lead smaller to moderate land development projects or key components of larger projects, while ensuring designs meet applicable codes, standards, permitting requirements, and client expectations.
This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong technical capabilities in site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and paving design, along with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, survey teams, consultants, and internal project staff.
What You'll DoCivil Engineering & Land Development DesignPerform independent civil engineering design and analysis for private land development projects.
Develop site layouts, grading plans, drainage systems, utility plans, paving plans, and related construction documents.
Prepare engineering calculations, design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Apply applicable federal, state, and local design standards and regulations.
Ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards.
Review and sign/seal engineering deliverables within areas of professional responsibility.
Lead smaller-to-moderate projects or specific components of larger land development projects.
Coordinate project activities, design schedules, and deliverables.
Work with project teams to resolve technical and design issues.
Coordinate with survey teams to incorporate field data and survey information into engineering designs.
Communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders as needed.
Support projects through permitting, construction documentation, and final delivery.
Apply AASHTO, MUTCD, Texas and local design requirements, and applicable development standards.
Incorporate TDLR/ADA requirements into project designs.
Apply knowledge of stormwater, drainage, hydraulic, utility, grading, and paving design principles.
Support permitting processes and ensure designs comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
Review construction practices and provide engineering support as needed.
Prepare clear technical documentation, reports, specifications, and business correspondence.
Assist with construction documents, cost estimates, and project specifications.
Clearly communicate technical concepts to project teams and clients.
Maintain organized project documentation and meet established deadlines.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Active Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain Texas licensure through reciprocity/comity.
4-8 years of progressive post-graduation civil engineering experience.
Significant experience in private land development/civil site design.
Strong experience with:
Site development
Grading
Drainage/stormwater
Utilities
Paving design
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Experience with stormwater/hydraulic modeling software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, codes, and permitting processes.
Knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, Texas/local codes, TDLR, and ADA requirements.
Understanding of construction practices and project delivery.
