Job Description
- Identify trauma patients meeting registry inclusion criteria and abstract required data from the medical record
- Enter and maintain accurate, timely data in the trauma registry database
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) codes to injuries
- Validate data for completeness and accuracy prior to state and national database submission (NTDB, TQIP, or applicable state trauma registry)
- Identify and correct data deficiencies or discrepancies in existing registry records
- Support performance improvement and quality reporting efforts by generating registry reports as needed
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable privacy regulations
- Coordinate with hospital staff or outside agencies as needed to obtain complete medical record documentation
- Prior experience as a trauma registrar, or equivalent experience in medical record abstraction and data entry into a clinical registry
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and trauma coding standards
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM coding and AIS/Injury Severity Scoring
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and trauma registry software (e.g., ImageTrend, Digital Innovation/Collector, or similar)
- Certification as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) and/or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) preferred, but not required for this contract length
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Reliable high-speed internet and a private, HIPAA-compliant workspace
- This is a temporary, defined-length assignment (approximately 12–20 weeks) with no guarantee of extension or conversion to permanent status
- Fully remote; candidate must be able to work independently and meet productivity/quality benchmarks set by the client
- Weekly pay through Madison Approach Staffing, W2 only, no 1099 contractors
