We are seeking to hire an experienced coating inspector needs a professional who understands how protective coatings interact with welded joints, heat-affected zones, and structural steel fabrication.

Job Summary

  • Role: Lead Coating Inspector
  • Experience Required: 5+ years in structural steel, pipe spool fabrication, or welding environments
  • Core Goal: Ensure all welded structures receive compliant surface preparation and protective coating applications to guarantee long-term corrosion prevention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welding-Specific Inspection: Inspect weld seams for defects (spatter, slag, sharp edges, undercut) before blasting and coating to ensure proper adhesion.
  • Surface Preparation: Verify surface cleanliness and anchor profiles using visual standards and replica tape, focusing on complex geometry like weld beads and heat-affected zones.
  • Environmental & Application Testing: Measure ambient conditions (dew point, relative humidity) and verify wet/dry film thickness (WFT/DFT) during and after application.
  • Quality & Code Compliance: Ensure all coating work complies with engineering specifications and industry codes (AWS, NACE/AMPP, SSPC, AISC).
  • Documentation & Reports: Maintain precise daily logs, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and final quality control documentation for clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of coating inspection experience directly within a heavy fabrication, structural steel, or welding shop environment.
  • Certifications: AMPP/NACE CIP Level 1 or 2
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of industrial coatings (epoxies, polyurethanes, zinc-rich primers) applied over welded carbon and stainless steels.

Throughout the last two years it has been goal to become diversified where our team can take on many different types of projects and successfully complete them without losing sight on our safety record and quality standards.

Our specialty is designing and building modular compressor stations, building all types of ASME vessels, being able to take on capital piping projects, and providing structural fabrication needs for all of the above.

Our goals for the future are to utilize our ASME U/S/R stamp by building more ASME vessels and utilizing our S stamp for taking on specialty piping projects.
