Position Overview

We are seeking an Overhaul Technician – Level I to perform hands-on disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and preparation of various train braking components, HVAC units, door operators, couplers, and other mechanical equipment.

This is a hands-on manufacturing/overhaul position ideal for candidates with experience or training in mechanical assembly, disassembly, fabrication, machining, welding, electrical work, painting, production, or general industrial labor.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, be comfortable using hand and power tools, and be able to follow work instructions, engineering drawings, safety procedures, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and tear down mechanical components according to work instructions, engineering drawings, and applicable test codes.
  • Clean and prepare components for overhaul and further processing.
  • Work on train braking components, HVAC units, door operators, couplers, and related equipment.
  • Move materials between workstations using hand carts, pallet jacks, hoists, and cranes as required.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment, including:
    • Pneumatic and hand tools
    • Grinders
    • Wire wheels
    • Presses
    • Vises
    • Fixtures
  • Complete required paperwork and documentation related to disassembly and cleaning activities.
  • Follow established work procedures and determine appropriate tooling and operation sequences.
  • Perform work in accordance with engineering specifications, quality procedures, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
  • Follow all company safety rules, regulations, procedures, and established policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical and/or pneumatic components is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and understand operating instructions, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and basic technical documentation.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn new processes quickly.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
  • Positive attitude, self-discipline, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to safely perform all assigned job duties.

2+ years of manufacturing assembly or related experience/training is preferred, but candidates with relevant education, hands-on training, or equivalent experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to reach, stoop, crouch, bend, and perform repeated movements throughout the workday.
  • Ability to use vibrating and impact pneumatic hand tools.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely perform repetitive mechanical and industrial tasks.
  • Must be available to work overtime and Saturdays when required.

Work Environment

  • Indoor industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Work involves dirty, greasy, grimy, and rusted mechanical parts, including components removed from underneath trains.
  • Shop areas may be loud, particularly around operating machinery and equipment.
  • Employee may work near moving mechanical and pneumatic equipment.
  • Shop areas are not fully climate-controlled, so employees may be exposed to seasonal temperature and weather conditions.
  • Appropriate PPE is required throughout the facility.

PPE Requirements

At minimum, employees are required to wear:

  • Safety steel-toe shoes
  • Eye protection

Depending on the work area and assigned tasks, additional PPE may include:

  • Hearing protection
  • Hand protection
  • Arm protection
  • Respiratory protection
  • Face shields

Ideal Candidate

This position is best suited for a mechanically inclined candidate who enjoys hands-on teardown, assembly, repair, cleaning, and industrial equipment work and is comfortable working in a physically demanding manufacturing environment.
