This role focuses on structural steel welding and assembly of custom truck bodies and trailers in a shop environment. You will lay out, fit, and weld components according to detailed specifications and blueprints, using a wide range of hand and power tools. The position operates on a daytime schedule with potential overtime, and supports the production of custom equipment for mining, construction, and agriculture applications.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble truck bodies and trailers in a shop environment according to specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Lay out dimensions on metal stock, including sheet metal and angle iron, using squares, rules, punches, and other layout tools.
  • Fit and assemble structural steel components using hand tools and portable power tools such as drills, riveters, and welding equipment.
  • Perform MIG welding on structural and stainless steel using techniques such as dual shield and short arc, ensuring strong, clean welds.
  • Use fabrication tools, including grinders, drills, saws, tape measures, power tools, air tools, and plasma cutters, to cut, shape, and prepare materials.
  • Install electrical wiring for dome lights, taillights, brake lights, and other equipment following specified procedures and diagrams.
  • Apply basic knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and hydraulics when assembling and wiring truck bodies and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and set up layouts accurately to meet design requirements and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and solve fabrication, fitment, and assembly issues as they arise during production.
  • Inspect completed welds and assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and support continuous improvement in the shop.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of experience in structural steel welding in a shop environment.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding on structural and stainless steel, including dual shield and short arc processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and accurately set up layouts based on drawings and specifications.
  • Hands-on experience assembling truck bodies or similar fabricated structures.
  • Competency in using all common shop tools, including grinders, drills, saws, tape measures, power tools, air tools, and plasma cutters.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fabrication and assembly environment.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, including wiring for lights and related equipment.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics and mechanical aptitude for working with mobile equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and work safely with hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Fabrication experience beyond welding, including cutting, fitting, and finishing metal components.
  • Experience installing electrical wiring for vehicle lighting and auxiliary equipment.
  • Background working with custom equipment for industries such as mining, construction, or agriculture.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production shop setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a shop environment dedicated to building custom equipment for mining, construction, and agriculture, with a primary focus on the mining department. You will work with structural steel and stainless steel using MIG welding equipment, plasma cutters, grinders, drills, saws, tape measures, and a variety of power and air tools. The standard schedule runs from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime available as needed. The work is hands-on and physically active, involving metal fabrication, welding, and assembly in an industrial setting where safety procedures and appropriate work attire are essential.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
