Job Description
We are looking for a Contract Controller to lead accounting operations for a growing chemicals manufacturing business in Cincinnati, Ohio. This role will take ownership of the month-end close, strengthen financial reporting practices, and help establish a disciplined finance function within a private equity-backed environment. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys building structure, improving controls, and partnering closely with leadership in a hands-on manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities:
• Lead a structured monthly close process, ensuring reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and financial statements are completed accurately within an established timetable.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including payables, invoicing, and cash posting, to maintain reliable financial records and efficient transaction flow.
• Coordinate external audit preparation by organizing supporting schedules, maintaining documentation, and serving as a key contact during audit fieldwork.
• Execute and document internal control procedures, including review workflows, reconciliation approvals, and supporting evidence for compliance purposes.
• Assist with opening balance sheet activities by supporting purchase accounting requirements, valuation inputs, and related financial roll-forwards.
• Develop sound inventory and cost accounting practices for a manufacturing environment with complex production outputs, including support for physical inventory counts.
• Prepare recurring financial packages and supporting schedules for lenders and investors, ensuring reporting is timely, complete, and decision-ready.
• Document existing accounting processes, improve data quality within current systems, and support future ERP evaluation and implementation efforts.
• Partner with senior finance leadership to create scalable accounting processes that can support future business growth and acquisitions.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA designation is strongly preferred.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of a full monthly close in a manufacturing organization.
• Demonstrated expertise in inventory accounting and manufacturing cost accounting; experience in process or batch manufacturing is an advantage.
• Background working in an audited company environment, with added value placed on exposure to first-time audits, GAAP reporting, or purchase accounting.
• Familiarity with the pace and expectations of private equity-backed businesses is preferred.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks is required; experience with ERP systems and system implementation or migration work is beneficial.
• Ability to create processes, document procedures, and operate effectively in a lean, hands-on finance team.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail in managing financial support materials and reporting records.
