We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team in Roanoke, Virginia. This role will focus on the design and delivery of HVAC systems for a diverse range of building projects, including educational, civic, arts, and commercial facilities.
The ideal candidate is a licensed mechanical engineer with strong HVAC design experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and clients. This position also offers an opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of projects from design through completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop HVAC systems for a variety of building types and project scopes.
- Perform and review HVAC system design calculations and engineering analyses.
- Utilize industry-standard software for design load calculations and energy modeling.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Communicate project requirements, technical recommendations, and design solutions effectively.
- Support project planning and execution to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Review plans, specifications, and technical documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineering staff.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain high standards of technical quality and professional engineering practice.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
- 7–10 years of professional engineering experience preferred.
- Strong experience designing HVAC systems for commercial or complex building environments.
- Experience with design load calculation and energy modeling software, such as TRACE and COMcheck.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability or interest in mentoring and developing junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Revit and BIM-based design workflows.
- Experience working on educational, civic, arts, or commercial building projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC design standards, building codes, and energy-efficiency requirements.
- Experience managing or supporting projects from initial design through completion.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
