The Nurse Manager of Emergency Services provides strategic clinical and operational leadership for a fast-paced, acute-care Emergency Department. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while driving operational efficiency, staff engagement, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

The Nurse Manager oversees daily department operations, including staffing and scheduling, patient flow, quality and safety initiatives, performance management, budgeting, and resource utilization. This role works closely with physicians, nursing leadership, hospital administration, and interdisciplinary teams to promote exceptional patient outcomes and a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective clinical and operational leadership for the Emergency Department.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, productivity, workforce planning, and employee performance.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with physicians, patients, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies, procedures, standards, and evidence-based best practices.
  • Lead initiatives focused on quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence.
  • Monitor and analyze departmental performance metrics, patient satisfaction, patient flow, throughput, and other key operational indicators.
  • Support department budgeting, financial planning, resource management, and fiscal accountability.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff while supporting professional growth and leadership development.
  • Promote a positive work environment centered on teamwork, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify operational opportunities and implement strategies that improve efficiency, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
  • Partner with interdisciplinary leaders to address barriers to patient flow and enhance the overall Emergency Department experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Texas RN license or Multi-State Compact RN license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification through AHA or ARC required within six months of hire.
  • PALS certification required within six months of hire.
  • TNCC, ENPC, or CEN certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Emergency Department Nurse Manager.
  • Experience leading and managing a high-volume Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, staffing, budgeting, and operational performance.
  • Proven ability to build effective partnerships with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and change-management skills.
